Iran Aims to launch pilot version of the crypto rial within the next two months. Central Bank Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Ali Salehabadi said the pilot project will initially cover just one of the country’s regions. The new Iranian currency will be issued under the provisions governing the emission of banknotes and coins and will be available exclusively for transactions inside the country. The CBI will be responsible for monitoring the financial and economic impact of the digital cash and making sure it doesn’t negatively affect its monetary policies. The coin is based on a distributed ledger system that will be maintained by authorized financial institutions and capable of supporting smart contracts. Source
