Bitcoin has “died” over 400 times, but the industry has captivated the minds of the public and professionals, governors and creators. Just like railways, the internet continues to shape the format of the internet, writes Andrew Keen. Keen: The first use case of cryptocurrency is instant, uncensored, nearly free payments. The introduction of nonfungible tokens (NFT), their sales frenzy and the experiments in virtual reality hint at what a “semantic web” could look like. Keen says it is our duty and responsibility to constantly remind ourselves about the risks and limitations of new technologies to ensure a new technology is just as effective as the railroads will inevitably transform the Web2-to-3.
